A wrist dive computer is wrist watch-like instrument that measures temperature, time, ambient pressure and other variables.

 

The main purpose of the dive computer is to make measurements and the calculations that provide the diver with the information in order to achieve a safe ascent.

 

The wrist dive computer displays the save rate of ascent based on estimates of the amount of nitrogen absorbed during the dive. 

 

You can turn the computer on during the travel time to the location of the dive so that it can measure the conditions the scuba diver experiences before entering the water.

 

Some wrist dive computers will even provide divers with post-dive recommendations about when it is safe to fly again.

 

Most of wrist dive computers have menus and the diver should become familiar with the dive computer topside.

 

You have to remember that dive computers have built-in programming that is based on assumptions about how gases are absorbed and released.  The wrist dive computers only give recommendations, no two divers are exactly alike. 

 

Do not ever abandon common sense and err on the side of your safety.
